Manual Transmissions: Differential: Disassembly

  1. Remove differential bearing cones (ring gear and differential case side) using Tool C-293-PA, Adapters C-293-45, and Tool 4996. (Fig 1 and Fig 2 ).

  2. Remove ring gear-to-case bolts. (Fig 3). Discard and use NEW bolts upon Assembly.

  3. Using a suitable screwdriver, pry off speedometer drive gear. (Fig 4 and Fig 5 ).

  4. Using hammer and suitable punch, remove pinion shaft retaining pin. (Fig 6, Fig 7 and Fig 9 ).

  5. Remove pinion shaft. (Fig 8 and Fig 9 ).

  6. Remove pinion gears, side gears and thrust washers (Fig 10).
