Starter Assembly

1. Disconnect the "M" terminal on the starter solenoid assembly. See Fig 1 .
2. Remove the starter solenoid assembly retaining screws and remove the starter solenoid assembly. See Fig 2 .
3. Remove the brush holder retaining screws and starter through bolts. See Fig 3 .
4. Remove the rear bracket and brush holder assembly. See Fig 4 .
5. Remove the armature and yoke assembly. See Fig 5 .
6. Remove the lever plate and planet shaft packing. See Fig 6 .
7. Remove the planet gears. See Fig 7 .
8. Remove the planet shaft assembly and lever. See Fig 8 .
9. Using a suitable socket, press the stop ring retainer off of the stop ring. See Fig 9 .
10. Using expandable pliers, remove the stop ring. See Fig 10 .
11. Remove the stop ring retainer, overrunning clutch and internal gear from the planet shaft. See Fig 11 .
12. To reassembly, reverse removal procedure. Use a suitable pulling tool to seat the stop ring retainer over the stop ring. See Fig 12 .
