Instrument Cluster Test 1A - Identifying Instrument Cluster System Problems

NOTE: Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL article. After each repair, perform TEST VER-1A  .
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector. Ensure all connectors are clean and tight.
  1. Using scan tool, select BODY SYSTEM, then MIC CLUSTER. If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to next step. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TEST 6A  . If scan tool displays any other message, go to VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS TEST 1A  .
  2. Using scan tool, read cluster type (US or Metric). If cluster type does not match application, replace instrument cluster circuit board. If cluster type matches application, go to next step.
  3. Identify problems(s) listed in INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY table and perform indicated test(s).
