Instrument Cluster Test 4B - Speedometer Not Operating Properly

NOTE: Perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 4A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL article. After each repair, perform TEST VER-1A  .
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector. Ensure all connectors are clean and tight.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove speedometer pinion gear from transmission. Count number of teeth on pinion gear and compare to specification. See SPEEDOMETER PINION GEAR APPLICATION  table. Replace pinion gear if gear teeth do not match tire size and axle ratio. If correct pinion gear is installed, go to next step.
  2. Reinstall pinion gear. Start engine. Place transmission in gear. If speedometer moves to it's calibration points, system is operating properly at this time. If speedometer still does not move to it's calibration points, replace Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located in engine compartment next to Power Distribution Center (PDC).
