Valve Body: Disassembly
NOTE:
If the valve body is being reconditioned or replaced, it is necessary to perform the Quick Learn Procedure using the DRBIII® Scan Tool.
- Remove manual shaft seal.
- Remove manual shaft screw. See Fig 1.
- Remove Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) and manual shaft. See Fig 2.
- Remove Solenoid/Pressure Switch Assembly from valve body. See Fig 3.
- Remove valve body stiffener plate. See Fig 4.
- Invert valve body assembly and remove transfer plate-to-valve body screws. See Fig 5.
- Remove transfer/separator plate from valve body. See Fig 6)
- Remove separator plate-to-transfer plate screws. See Fig 7.
- Remove separator plate from transfer plate. See Fig 8.
- Remove oil screen from transfer plate. See Fig 9.
- Remove thermal valve from transfer plate. See Fig 10.
- Remove valve body check balls. Note their location for assembly ease. See Fig 11.
- Remove 2/4 accumulator assembly as shown in Fig 12.
- Remove dual retainer plate from valve body. Use special tool 6301 to remove plate. See Fig 13.
- Remove regulator valve spring retainer. See Fig 14.
- Remove remaining retainers as shown in Fig 15.
- Remove valves and springs as shown in Fig 16.
- Cleanliness through entire disassembly and assembly of the valve body cannot be overemphasized. When disassembling, each part should be washed in a suitable solvent, then dried by compressed air. Do not wipe parts with shop towels. All mating surfaces in the valve body are accurately machined; therefore, careful handling of all parts must be exercised to avoid nicks or burrs.
